Desoldering tip – FLUX.

At some point, we’re all going to have to remove a soldered component.

For processors with fine pitch and lots of pins, hot air and Kapton tape is the best plan.

For through hole passives, pin headers, pots etc, use a largeish chisel tip and desoldering braid. It REALLY HELPS to dip the desoldering wick in flux like this one, first. Just make sure you’re using an extractor or in a very well ventilated area…this stuff is not good for the lungs at all.

Counterintuitively, it can help to ADD some solder first, for those annoying times the last bit doesn’t budge, or adding leaded solder when you’re desoldering lead-free solder.
